What top coaches don't tell you - Triple Session: Coaching with purpose
People always ask me what the secret to coaching is like there's a single answer. The secret is that there is no secret, the best coaches use simple drills but they use them well and with a definite purpose. This week we've got two sessions with a clear coaching purpose PLUS a free to view Coaching Report! Read on to learn more!
Using the support in front of the ball - Positive Play
This first of this week's session was created to help players work out how to pass the ball beyond the defenders to players running ahead. It should encourage players to keep the ball moving to the opposition's goal.
To get players thinking about the forward pass instead of always passing the ball backwards or sideways when there's a defender in the way. To really reinforce this idea this session finished with a game called it's not rugby which aims to discourage negative play, instead getting players to push on and support the player on the ball.

Training for the weekend - Committing fewer fouls
Often you will find that top coaches only use one or two drills for the entire training, stopping play only briefly to discuss an area for improvement before resuming the game. It was for this reason that I recently used this session a week before we were due to play a team who were level with us in the league; so the game could really go either way!
From experience this team scored most their goals from short corners (which we gave away too easily) so the logical thing to do was to focus on not fouling, with the intention that players would carry this purpose through with them into their game at the weekend.
Find out how we trained to cut down unnecessary fouls...
Special Report: What the top coaches don't tell you
This special report covers the basics of planning for success, using the information that is readily available to you as a coach to your advantage so that you can plan ahead and better prepare for your weekend games.
The top coaches don't use overly complicated exercises, in fact they probably coach many of the same drills as you do but the difference is making sure there is a clear and definite reason behind their coaching - a clear purpose which has an aim which can be used in your next game to improve your side's game (whether that a tighter defence, better team pressing or more positive passing).
This isn't to say you don't do this already but by taking a step back and thinking about what you want to achieve you'll be able to coach with greater purpose!
