The 3 Rs of netball - Receive, Rotate and Release
Tell me more
More time on the ball: Three skills in one fluid move!
Do your players know the three Rs? Receive, Rotate and Release
This week's Sportplan session asks your team an important question: "Do they know the three Rs of netball?" and, more importantly, "do they use them in their games?"
Receive
Rotate
Release
A common weakness in players is that they only react to what is going on around them, they don't anticipate what is going to happen. This is where the three Rs come in. The faster your players are able to handle and move the ball around the court, the more time they will have the look around them, assess the game and see what options are available to them.
To make sure your players adopt this principle and use it in their next game we're sending you this comprehensive session, from warm-up to cool-down, that can be used with all ages and abilities.
Starting off with some wall passing exercises, to get your players used to the ball coming back at them straight away, we then continue to look at ways of getting your players to catch, jump and pivot in one fluid movement. To finish with we give your players the chance to put their new skills to the test in a game situation, giving you an opportunity to step back and see the improvement in your team.

3D Interception session: Driving, Dynamic Defences

Drive onto passes and poach the ball!
How do I coach intercepting the ball?
This week's Sportplan session looks at how you can get your players to cover the space when a players moves to make an interception.
Some skills are easier to explain and teach than others, passing for instance is easy to visualise - you throw the ball from person A to person B with the intention of maintaining possession and progressing up the court. However, how do you teach something which happens in a split second? The interception is a fleeting move, one which needs to happen very quickly in order for it to be successful.
To help you coach this dashing move we use 3D - Driving, dynamic defences. First your player needs to drive into the space between the passer. Second the rest of the team needs to be dynamic, taking the responsibility to move to cover the space left open by the player's move to intercept the ball. Thirdly they need to be defensively minded, being prepared to drop back and cover and fill the holes.
Your players will start by working in simple situations, working in two versus one drills, this gives the intercepting player a 50/50 choice and makes the skill easy to practice. As they improve and their success rate improves you will be able to progress them onto more game-like drills before finishing with a full size game.
Poach the ball now! - full members can log in download it now, or you can upgrade today.

Break the Defence with decisive running

Dynamic movement session.
Put some verve in your team's running
This week's Sportplan session aims to solve a common banana-shaped problem that is prevalent in many teams.
Banana I hear you ask? Well yes, this is the lackadaisical half moon shaped run that many players make when they want to receive the ball from a fellow team mate, with no change of pace, no urgency and ultimately no result. Often the pass will never make it to its intended recipient, instead being snatched away by a more eager alert player.
To help you break through the opposition's defence and drive at the D this week we are looking at a well known basketball play which can easily be adopted into your netball repertoire. It's called the V-Cut and is the ideal move for players looking to make a dummy run to lose their marker, find space and receive the ball.
As the name suggests the V-Cut is a two directional run, requiring a burst of acceleration and a quick change of direction.
Using a combination of drills, plays and conditioned games you will be able to teach your players this new play, see them use it in a game situation and hopefully build enough confidence in them for them to use it in their next match. After using this session you would look to see your players making dynamic runs to lose their markers, find space and meet the ball. The other team won't know what's hit them!
Don't be a banana - full members can drive at the D and download it now, or you can upgrade today.
